This is not an original thought and has been expressed better no doubt but reoccured to me when I saw this image, so fuck it. Both Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are billionaire members of the 1% whom, through huge sums of money earned by defense contracts and untreated psychosis have empowered themselves to exist above the law. Still though, they work with the police and government as it suits them to protect their status and exact brutal justice on common criminals as well as “super villains”. Shitting on the idea of due process and civil rights the entire time. And when they’re not out busting the heads of pot dealers with their million dollar toys, they have to play their “cover” roles in society by being public, drunken assholes and fucking disposable super-models. In Iron Man 2, poor, weird, crazy bastard Micky Rourke just wants revenge on the Starks for corporate espionage against his dead father who was forced back to Russia into poverty when the shady American businessman stole his idea. Totally fucked up right? Batman, specifically in Nolan’s films takes down 2 political anarchists in Ras Al Guhl and the Joker, both whom wish to see a corrupt world reordered by chaos. The Joker has some legitimate issues, but really, his heart is in the right place. And Batman of course uses draconian, illegal surveillance techniques the NSA would find appalling to upend the Joker and maintain the status quo. Bane, in the Dark Knight rises promises more of the same, wishing to destroy Gotham. The character of Catwoman even invokes the tone of OWS, saying to Wayne in the trailer, “There’s a storm coming, you and your friends better batton down the hatches, cause when it hits you’re going to wonder how you thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.” Damn right.
Both of these bastards are basically R-money with some martial arts training or a fucking robot suit and a libido. Screw them both, give me a world where the Joker is running things. Why so Serious indeed.
